The Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo have denounced the rumour that NDU will no longer resume 16th January, 2020.
The Vice Chancellor stated this while responding to questions in Rhythm 94.7 FM Yenagoa on the state of resumption in the university.
When asked if the 18th January class commencement date is still holding, the VC stated that ‘I will not bother myself with that. As a Vice Chancellor, until I see a circular forwarded to me…. Take note, we are under NUC, we are under the state government’ the VC said.
‘The governor through the Ministry of Education, through the council, they give me directives. For now, school in Niger Delta University will resume 16th; and that 16th we expect that students are coming back to the campus and on the 18th, activities starts.’
‘We are into first semester exams and we decided that look, for some of them, they must have forgotten their books and the rest. So we still give them at least one week to revise and do whatever and then before we now go into our exams and as soon as we finish our exams, February, we are into our second semester.
The VC’s statement today indicated that the 16th January resumption date still stands and students are advised to proceed and come to school. Despite the challenges of the surging cases of Covid-19, the Federal Government will give directives as to how to go about that but for now, NDU resume Saturday January 16th, 2020.
