This research work was designed to investigate the influence of socio-economic background on student’s academic performance in the post primary level. The research was studied, using three hundred questionnaires, which was distributed to students in Yenagoa local government area. Various literature were reviewed and the data collected were analyzed. A number of findings were identified which are, socio-economic status of parents, parent educational background, family size or structure and its influence on the academic performance of students. The research was formulated for the research study. The data collected were analyzed using the mean and standard deviation method, based on these findings, it was recommended that uneducated parents should be encouraged to attend the adult literacy programmed and so become intellectually enlightened, the government should provide adequate educational facilities in schools, parents should be concerned about the company their children keep, conducive environment should be provided for effective learning.
