1.1   Background of the Study

This essay is aimed at bringing to light the history of a small but beautiful town as the name Kalaibiama means Little or nothing has been done on the history of this people and this is said to be as a result of the role Opobo, its neighboring town, played during the colonial period, when Opobo exercised influenced over a large territory which included the present day Opobo/Nkoro local government area, some parts of Khana local government area, Andoni local Government area, all of Rivers state and Ikot Abasi and Ikpat Enin local government area of Akwa Ibom state.

The author therefore, intends to fill this historical gap. This will be done by providing information on how they came to their present settlement, their method of administration and their contribution in the areas of warfare commerce and nation–building from 1869 -1960. Having said that, we have to note the works and achievements of Chief Ibanimina Jack Tolofari, founder of Kalabiama Town, his followers and subsequent activities of the succeeding generation will also be treated in this work.
