Abstract

The study was conducted with the aim of ascertaining the impact of illiterate parents towards the academic performance of secondary school students in Nembe Local Government Area. The survey design was adopted for the study while the population consists of the 13 secondary schools in Nembe Local Government Area from which eight secondary schools were selected. 177 students and 285 parents were used as the sample size consisting of both male and female. The instrument used for the research was interview and questionnaire constructed to elicit response from the respondents. Data analysis was the simple percentage. The finding of the research reveals that academic performance of students greatly lies on the academic level of their parents. Based on the findings some recommendations were made to the parents, and government regarding how the students’ academic performance could be improved.
