The day of judgment is here and sure, it is not a good one for many. Since many Jambites have checked their results, many have been feeling very badly due to poor JAMB scores. Some, did not even score the minimum requirement for a polytechnic. If you are among these crops of Jambites, what should you do? Wait for another JAMB to write again? Well, the choice is yours.
Here, we shall take you on a ride on what to do if your jamb score is very poor and these information will be very important to you. Of course, waiting for next year JAMB is also another option which we will also consider, but the various options here will give you a wide array of options to choose from.
First Step Of Action
If your JAMB is very low, the first step of action is not back down. What to do first it to search for alternative institutions that accept your JAMB score. Institutions differ according to location, quality and years of operations. Universities like LASU, UNN, DELSU, UNIBEN, UNIPORT all accept higher cutoff marks like 180, 200 and above. So, if your JAMB score is not up to the university cutoff mark that you chose, then, look out to other universities that allows lesser cutoff marks. For example, the Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, etc. all accept between 180 down to 150.
If at all you see any university you like and can accommodate your JAMB score, then congratulations, you just apply to Jamb change of course in Jamb portal. Cafés can do it for you for just N3,500 while some other cafes can take up to N4,000. Then, you just know that that is your new University.
Second Step is to Look for Alternative Programmes
If your Jamb score does not allow you to enter any institution at all, like it is below the minimum JAMB benchmark for the various institutions, then, you will not lose hope. You will search for alternative programmes to study.
There are several programmes in the university that you can actually engaged through which you can become a bonafide student of a Nigerian University. Some of these programmes includes the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) and the Basic Studies programme.
The Niger Delta University Pre-degree programme is designed to be an intensive training programme which aimed at preparing university admission seekers (senior secondary leavers) for university education. Given the prevalence of deficiencies students carried over from secondary schools, our Pre-degree programme help students deal with the setbacks that often accompany such circumstances by providing them with a good head-start which will facilitate better academic performance in the university. The programme is a one year programme that allows a student to be certified with the JUPEB certificate which gives the opportunity to be admitted into year two.
Please, read it all in the link provided below:
The Basic Studies programme is designed to improve the performance of secondary school leavers in SSCE, NECO, UTME and other equivalent examinations. The duration of the programme is one academic year of two semesters. Candidates are required to write examinations at the end of each semester and only those who perform creditably are admitted into the undergraduate programmes of the university. So far, the programmes are running smoothly and students gain admission with ease into their choice of study. For Basic however, graduates of the programme gain admission into 100 level.

Third Step: Change of Course
Of course, this step three will take use a whole year to talk about because the need to talk about it will be emerging. From time to time, we shall be bringing this issue up because events will be happening regarding this.
If for example, you chose Medicine and you saw your score to be below 200, this is the time for change of course. Do not waste your time and money dragging medicine with those who scored 250 and above. Often time, when we see students with less than 200 having Medicine, we just whisper “special connection people” to ourselves. We know them. Long leg people.
So this is the time. Change your course. From Medicine, you can change to related science courses like Biochemistry, Biological Science, Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics, Pure and Applied Chemistry (Chemistry), etc. Other courses like Pharmacy, Med Lab, Nursing, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, etc. are in same line of high Jamb score league. So, just leave them alone. If you change to lower courses, of course, admission will be surer for you than remaining in Medicine.
Let me give you a gist, I will give half the gist, then you visit the page to get the full data. Last year, that is this current 100 level that has entered this year, the Niger Delta University had already released its merit list and merit supplementary list. However, before the next batch was released, a list of candidates were released, informing them to change their courses to other courses especially from medicine. In the list, Medicine candidates were close to 1,100. This is just in one list. So, you see? Those when dey carry Medicine leg must have high scores.
