- As returning students concludes their exams
- School fees as a prerequisite to write first semester examinations
It has been announced that 100 level students of the Niger Delta University are to commence their first semester examinations April 6th, 2020. This is coming after 100 level examinations was exclusively shifted to be held separately from returning students’ examinations.
The Vice Chancellor announced this during the matriculation ceremony when he said “…exams that is slated to take place on the 6th of April.” The VC was tackling the issue of non-payment of school fees by many students when he released the examination date. The full sentence has been captured below:
“If you have not paid your fees by the end of this month and register, you are not a student of this university and you will never write exams that is slated to take place on the 6th of April”.
It was particularly noted in the matric hall that many students did not take this statement in good faith as the hall was unnecessarily silent as against the previous applause extended on the VC’s speech.

Whether this assertion by the VC on pay before service (school fees before exam) will hold-sway by the examination time is what we cannot confirm now as such publications had been played down in recent times. However, it is expedient to pay up before exams to avoid anything like deferment of studies.
The VC particularly noted that anyone who is unable to pay up fees before exams should apply for deferment of studies through their HODs, which will be forwarded to the Dean before the Senate considers it for approval.
