Antecedents

In Amassoma, accommodation plans/costs may differ from other communities around. This is because of the fact that Amassoma is a university environment. It is no longer new to one’s ear that accommodation is costlier in university environment than they are in non-university bearing communities. Thus an accommodation plan that goes for N50,000 elsewhere can go for 100,000 in Amassoma

The case of Amassoma is not quite different from many other university bearing communities. Accommodation plans are deemed to be costlier here. At the minimum, one could get a house plan of N30,000 but he/she should understand that such plans lack working toilet systems and the only option available may be “paper bag and throw” system or the waterside system. You can also have a N50,000 plan but with general toilet inside the compound. Although such toilet system may be working, of course you are aware of the challenges of public toilets. However, at the peak, you have a plan of N100,000, well tiled, good toilet system and bathroom system and the plan of N120,000 that have the same features but with water system. However, at the peak, you have the plan of N150,000, this time having all the features above and security in addition.

Below is a detailed list of housing plans in Amassoma and our lines though which you can get a good accommodation plan that suites your will and lifestyle.

Hostels

For hostel accommodation, the cost for last two session through this session was N15,000 and N17,000. However, we do not know if the one for this year will be increased. Previously, you have to go to the office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs. Collect Hostel form, go to the bank and pay the 15,000, then you will come to the café and do online registration. After about a week or so, you will check back in your online profile. If you have been allocated, it will appear. Then you will print the form out which will contain your passport. You will take the hostel form to the hostel you are allocated and show it to the portal who will show you to your room. Hostel allocation is done based on the Faculty you are. Education students are not allocated to CHS hostels. Conversely, CHS students are not allocated to Main campus hostels unless hostels are filled up or such CHS student is a year one student who take lectures in Main Campus.

Currently, the registration process has been changed. Everything now works online and in realtime. You pay and immediately get allocated. All thanks to the Vice Chancellor who approves these functions and the Teesoft Innovation Team. The total cost for processing hostel fee is N5,000. Hence, if you are allocated to a N15,000 hostel, by the time you add processing fee, you will be arriving at N20,000. If N17,000 hostel, then your total fee will be N22,000.

Hostel allocation is first come, first serve basis. Hence, you must endeavour to register quick before the spaces are exhausted.

Whether you get hostel or off-k accommodation, please, endeavor to keep your environment clean. This is very essential for public health. If you are in hostel or off campus, please endeavor to involve in any public work or contribution especially in the off-k. In some compounds, monies are collected from everyone to buy insecticides and to spray the grasses around to keep the environment off-weed. Please, if you find yourself in such area, do cooperate with them.

Tips

Since accommodation are costly, if you feel you cannot afford to pay alone, you can look for a partner and share the cost equally. This will reduce the cost burden on each of you.

Conclusion

When searching for an accommodation, the best time is usually during the raining season when you can discern the areas that are waterlogged and those areas that are not. Notwithstanding that you may be searching during a dry season, what you must do is to check the ground level of the area and also see if the place looks like a place that will be covered if rain falls. Also check for elements of monkey bridge. This is a very good indicator of a water logged area.
