Download Admission Guide For Predegree and Basic Studies Here
Introduction
This admission guide is a question and answer series that answers all questions about the Predegree and Basic programme. Reading this material will give you an idea about how the programmes look like and make a better choice as you navigate the university system.
The type of information contained in this material are very scarce and nearly non-existent, hence I will appreciate that you value and utilize the content to your own advantage.
This material will look into Predegree programme first as a distinct programme before we move on to Basic Studies. This is to ensure I put a clear demarcation in the programmes to avoid confusion.
I will also make a comparison and differences in subsequent pages to enable you understand yourself and what you need. Please note that this material was published under the auspices of The Admissions and UTME Nigeria.
The Niger Delta University Predegree and Basic Studies
The Niger Delta University offer preliminary programmes known as Predegree programmes. They include JUPEB programmes offered by the IJMB and Basic Studies. The Niger Delta University preliminary programmes are managed by the School of Predegree and Basic Studies in New Site, Amassoma, Bayelsa State.
The programmes give admission seekers who are having challenges gaining admission easier access to the universities. While Predegree takes you to 200 level, Basic takes you to 100 level. However, the cost and charges for applying for both varies. Let us first of all focus on the Predegree/Jupeb programme to avoid ambiguities.
THE NIGER DELTA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF PREDEGREE
The Niger Delta University at its 125th meeting of the Senate held in May 6, 2015 established the Pre-Degree Programme and expanded the initial Basic Studies Programme for the Sciences in the University to include all other programmes offered by the University. The aim is to make University admission easier for the teeming population of youths and to prepare students for better University pursuit and positive career development.
Both the Pre-Degree and Basic Programmes are for only one year (9 months). At the end of the programme, admission will be given to the candidates who achieved the threshold. The Pre-Degree Programme offers candidates who enrolled into it the opportunity to engage in purposeful studies for two semesters, at the end of which candidates are offered admission into 200 level in their respective courses of choice in the University. Writing of JAMB or Post-UTME test is not required for the Pre-Degree. Candidates only have to pass the two-semester university-based examinations and the external examination organized by Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB)
The programme leads to the award of Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board certificates which enables candidates to gain Direct Entry Admission into 200 level of the programme offered by the Niger Delta University and other affiliated universities in Nigeria and abroad. The JUPEB certificate is equivalent to the advanced level GCE or the old Higher School Certificate (HSE) or IJAMB. Candidates seeking admissions into any of the programmes must have five O’level credits in not more than two sittings in the SSCE/NECO or other recognized examinations in subjects relevant to the course of study. Note that the five O’level credits must include English Language and Mathematics.
Characteristics of the NDU Predegree Programme
- The programme runs for one academic year of two semesters (9 months)
- Fees are relatively higher than Basic studies
- Does not accept O’level deficiencies
- You are already a student ahead, instead of remaining at home for another session.
NDU Predegree General Admission Requirements
Candidates must possess Ordinary Level, SSCE (WAEC), SSCE (NECO), NABTEB or equivalent with a minimum of four (4) relevant credit passes in subjects which must include English Language for Arts; and English and Mathematics for Sciences and Social Sciences. Candidates with deficiencies in their O’level results are not considered for the admission exercise.
Can I Apply For Predegree When I have A Pass In The Required Subjects
No. You must check the course requirements for the programme you want to study and see if you have the five basic o’level requirements before you apply. Kindly peruse through the subtopics to read the subject combo for all courses. See page 31 of this material.
How Much to Apply for the Niger Delta University Predegree Programme?
The following are charges and fees paid in the NDU Predegree programme (for the purpose of planning, both actual form fee, office fee and café charges have been added and totalled):

How Long After Application Before Predegree Admission Starts?
There is no specific time period for admission after Predegree application. The time depends on when you applied. If you applied when admissions have commenced, it is likely your admission will come sooner. However, from the date the form is released to the first admission batch is estimated to be 2 months. This is my first publication on this aspect of Predegree admissions. The next review will carry a specific time.
For others who will apply late, it is possible to get admission within a week or more.
How Much For NDU Predegree Physical Verification?
The NDU Predegree Physical verification cost only N1,000. It is done at the Pre-degree office, New Site, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State

Does NDU Predegree Applicants Write Screening Test?
No. Predegree does not require any form of entry exam. You just apply and get admissions if your o’level subjects are complete.
Is the Predegree Admission Difficult to Get?
No. Unlike the normal Jambite admission which is very competitive, the Predegree programme is not a highly competitive one. Over the years, all applicants have been duly admitted unless there are issues with the o’level results.
ADVERTORIALS
INTRODUCING!
EMERALD MULI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY FOR NDU STUDENTS
Emerald Students Multipurpose Cooperative Society is a cooperative where students can register, save their fees and apply for loans. Emerald Students MPCS offers students the ample opportunity to gather their fees in instalments and pay with ease.
Established on March 30th 2021, Emerald was able to save more than 50 newly admitted 2020/2021 students whose admissions were to be withdrawn because of lack of school fees. Haven paid school fees for these lucky members, they are now paying back on monthly basis. What a wiser way to save and keep your admissions without stories?
As a Predegree or Basic student, it is very important you register as an Emerald member so that you can take loans if at all you are unable to pay the full fees in later days. Another reason why you must register as an Emerald Cooperative member is that the NDU prefers to grant admissions to only candidates whose school fees are ready. Hence, it retracted/retrieved admissions of numerous students who were unable to pay their fees.
What we plan to do with Emerald is to teach admission seekers the understanding that their school fees needs to be ready so that when admissions comes, it won’t be retrieved because of inability to pay fees. This we can achieve through planned savings. Emerald gives you the platform to achieve that goal. Select a savings plan today and start saving for your education.

When is the Application for the NDU Predegree Programme Commencing?
Since this is a timeless material, the date of application cannot be contained here. However, you can call or WhatsApp 08060699054 to know the state of affairs of the NDU Predegree application whether it is still on or not.
Are All Predegree Graduates Admitted Into Year Two?
Depends. Admissions for the NDU Predegree graduates depends on performance. Scoring 12 points and above for Medicine and 10 points for Nursing and Pharmacy is advantageous. You may be asked to change your course if your score is lower than as course you applied for.
Can Predegree Certificate (JUPEB) Be Used More Than One Year?
Yes. According to the NDU admissions office, a JUPEB certificate can be used to re-apply for admissions if admission fails for the first attempt.
How Long Is The Predegree Programme?
The Predegree programme is a one session programme of 9 months with two semesters. Within the nine months, students write their external examinations and wait for admissions into 200 level as Direct Entry students.
How Does The Predegree Examinations Look Like?
Although Predegree does not have entry examinations, they have two basic examinations which is the first and second semester examinations. The first semester examination comes three months after resumption. A holiday is given and after the holiday, second semester begins. Second semester also commence in three-four months time. The final/external examination is the most important examination and if you do not write it, you have missed the purpose of the programme – the JUPEB Certificate.
Can I Write My Predegree Examinations Without Paying School Fees?
Not at all. Due to poor school fees payment behaviour of Predegree students, the Predegree management does not allow students to write examinations without paying school fees. Hence, if you feel you will not be able to raise the school fees along with the clearance, I will advise you wait till you are ready or apply and raise it as soon as possible.
Advert:
Do you feel you may be unable to pay your Predegree school fees of 153,000? Then register with Emerald Students Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society now to get School Fees Loans. Visit our office at main campus gate, Amassoma now or call 08060699054 for more info
How Does Jamb Direct Entry (DE) Concern Predegree Programme?
The Jamb Direct Entry form is what will link your JUPEB certificate to year two. If you have a JUPEB certificate and you do not purchase the JAMB DE form, then the JUPEB is waste for that session till the next year you buy JAMB DE form. This is to say no JAMB DE form, no admission into year two with your JUPEB certificate.
Let us illustrate. Let’s say you are currently a Predegree student but you did not buy the last Jamb DE form, then you will not gain admission this year till next year you buy Jamb DE form. But if you wrote Jamb, and you later prefer 200 level DE admission, your Jamb profile can be upgraded to a DE profile. This means you are no longer a Jambite. Your Jamb score good or bad will no longer matter nor be used as you are then a Direct Entry Candidate.
What Are The Procedures For Applying For NDU Predegree Programme?
First, you will wait for the Predegree office to announce new application for your session. Once the application is on, call 08060699054 for your application. Application can be done even in your absence. But if you are available, you can visit our A & U Ng ICT Smart Office at No. 1 NDU Road, Main Campus, Amassoma. Application cost only a total of N20,000.

A & U Ng Smart Staff; July, 2021
After application, you wait for admission. An admission text message will be sent to you by the Predegree office and you will commence the acceptance and clearance process. NDU Predegree Clearance also cost N20,000 with other documents like admission letter, attestation letters and statutory declaration which may cost up to N4,500.
After clearance, you will be directed to the relevant office where you can do your clearance. Clearance cost only N1,000 or as management may deem fit.
By then, you must have started classes or the date of class commencement must have been published. The 2020/2021 students commenced their classes January 4th, 2021. From then on, you are expected to familiarize yourself with the environment.
Are There Hostels For Predegree Students?
Yes. Predegree have hostels and it cost N15,000. You pay the N15,000 at the Eco Bank in Yenagoa and tender the receipt at the Predegree office.

Predegree graduates, when admitted into the university starts at 200 level.
Does Predegree Buy Post UTME Form?
Yes. Predegree students are expected to buy the NDU Post UTME form. It is very necessary.
Does Predegree Graduates Write Post UTME Examination?
No. Although Predegree graduates are to purchase the NDU Post UTME form, they are not involved in the writing. The basic need for purchasing the Post UTME form is to enable the university have the data on DE candidates who are applying for admissions.
How Much Is The Direct Entry Post UTME Form?

For all other information as it regards the NDU admission, kindly get my admission guide for Jambites and Freshmen Volume II.
What Can I Do To Make The Most From The Predegree Programme?
Many students in the past have gone empty handed from the Predegree programme. To avoid this, kindly do the following:
- Pay your school fees upon admission. The Predegree management do not allow students without fees to write examinations. If you do not have the school fees of N153,000 from the time of application, kindly make it available as soon as possible. I will even advise that no school fees, no application to avoid wastage of money.
- Apply very early. If you are following the information the A & U Ng centre publishes, then you are very lucky. Not many applicants got to know us until they have done things wrongly. Some students will apply very late when they cannot meet up. Later they will score very low, not got admission and say the Predegree programme is a scam.
- Be focused. The Predegree programme is a one year (precisely 9 months) programme. So why won’t you focus for the one year and make the most out of it? Put away parties, friends and any form of distraction and get a good score.
- Score up to 12points and above. Scoring 12 points and above in the Predegree programme is very crucial. It helps boost the possibility of a sure admission especially in competitive courses.
- Engage in all registration as at when due. Do your thumb printing, buy your materials, attend all classes and any other activities so demanded of you. This is for your own well-being.
