1. Fast and Timely Academic Session

If there is anything a student ever wanted in the university, it is to graduate on time as academic calendar stipulates. As at this ongoing 2019/2020 session, the Niger Delta University is currently running ahead of time. This has been the norm in the institution from inception.

The Niger Delta University unlike many other universities don’t go on strikes, riots or any unnecessary breaks. For instance, during the past Christmas, school went on holiday 23rd December and resumed 2nd January. This is by far unbeatable and unprecedented and it is as a result of a very sound, responsive and vibrant administration.

Based on our speculation and observation of the system, any student who filled the Niger Delta University in this 2020/2021 JAMB will surely step into 200 level before any other student in Nigeria.

The current 200 level students of the Niger Delta University are in the best position to attest to this. Even the current year one will also enjoy the same thing because the Vice Chancellor, during the students’ Award Concert where the Vice Chancellor and his administrative team were awarded by the students’ community, the Vice Chancellor noted that the school is currently on its toes (meaning very fast and on time). In the words of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo, “God willing, by June next year (2020), 2019/2020 academic session is over”.

How to avoid failure in UTME, Post UTME and getting admission

What the Vice Chancellor meant was that this ongoing session must end by June 2020 and 2020/2021 Jambites will take over. And you know what? From the time this statement was made till today, all things has been equal – no unnecessary holiday, no riots, no strikes. Meaning come June, this session is over and admission of 2020/2021 students will start off from there. Owing to this line of understanding, it is very necessary you choose Niger Delta University as a lot of new inputs are on ground.

2. Minimum JAMB Cutoff Mark

Did you know? The Niger Delta University maintains minimum cutoff marks yearly while maintaining quality academic practice. NDU Jamb cutoff mark has been 160 in recent times. However, as the 2021/2022 Jamb outcome is very poor, it may be possible Jamb may reduce the cutoff marks to 150. This is however, only speculative.

3. The Vice Chancellor is the African Educationist of the Year, 2020

The Niger Delta University is blessed with a vibrant Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo who won the Times Magazine Educationist Award for the year 2020.

The nomination and subsequent award was granted in acknowledgement of contributions to the growth of education in Africa. Being a student of NDU gives you the pride of bagging the most prestigious and respected certificate in Africa.

5. Chairman, Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities

The Vice Chancellor of the Niger Delta University, Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo is the Chairman, Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. By this, he presides over the affairs concerning universities in Nigeria.

Established in 1994, the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities is an association composed of vice-chancellors of higher education institutions in Nigeria. Objective of the Committee is to promote the scientific, educational, cultural and economic cooperation between Nigerian universities and foster the dialogue with other national and international organizations.

6. Upgraded Learning Environment

Currently in Niger Delta University, “even the blind” are seeing what the administration is doing. A parent who came for post UTME in September was complaining how everywhere changed in her eyes when she came back for clearance after admission. This is just within a spate of three months.

The truth is that the Niger Delta University is currently one of the fastest growing public Universities in Nigeria. No school can break this record. What is currently happening in the Niger Delta University is that there is a very vibrant Vice Chancellor that is making things happen.

The professor seems to know a whole lot about administration and things are really happening here. The current 100 level students that I shared this type of information with last year are all confirming it now. You too will want to school under this type of Vice chancellor before he leaves office.

The level of upgrade done there makes the whole place looks anew. Even alumni members could no longer recognize the place. New sitting arrangements, ACs, lighting, painting, even the surrounding was affected by this change. It was in fact a transformation!

Everyone currently seems to have a very positive review of the Niger Delta University. You just have to come and see things for yourselves. 8. Increased Admission Capacity

To say that the Niger Delta University have increased its admission power is now an understatement. What do you expect? With improved learning facilities and added programmes, it is only expected that the capacity of the university will improve tremendously.

However, the most intriguing part is not just that admission capacity has improved alone, it has more than doubled taking into cognizance the admission power from the inception of the current administration. It is on record that when this administration started, the university admits only 3,500 students per session.

This is just the capacity of the university as a 2016/2017 academic session. However, as time passes, with increase in operations, facilities and better academic policies, the school now admits 7,600 students per session.

10. Skill Acquisition Training

Despite being an academic institution where adequate attention is paid to research, the institution’s management understands that jobs are being difficult for graduates out there, hence, the Niger Delta University has included a skill acquisition training to its programmes with the intent to additionally train students on live and sustainable skills that can make NDU graduates unemployment proofed. The skill acquisition training programme is a one year training programme that is tailored to academic life. Students are timed to visit the centre without affecting their classes. Students who have entrepreneurial spirit can actually test run their skill by creating a mini business outfit in the school where they have thousands of students to patronize them. This is very good for students in an economy where jobs are virtually becoming a mirage.
